Sunset Western Garden Book
by The Editors of Sunset
I'll bet you weren't expecting this book on my list of recommendations to grief therapists. Truthfully, I didn't have a new book for you this week AND I've been spending a lot of time in the garden lately which is quite a healing balm for my heart and soul. It is what connects me to the earth and to the heavens for it was the gathering place in my family in the evenings and the weekends.
When Mark and I bought our house, many years ago, this is the "gardening bible" I was told about at the local nursery and it hasn't steered me wrong in more than 24 years.
It was a rather daunting endeavor since I was the person in the family that was on "supervision status" since I took out all the radishes one summer when "helping" with the weeding!
I have the 2001 edition which I still love. I can look up a plant from it's "proper" name (which I often don't know or can't remember!) or the nickname. Foxglove is one of my favorite flowers but it's proper name is Digitalis. BTW, Digoxin (heart medication) is made from this plant.
There are lots of books on growing plants. I encourage you to explore them and see if any spark your interest.
