Hi, I’m Debi Jenkins Frankle
My world was turned upside down in 1990 when my mom was diagnosed with liver cancer and died 2 weeks later. I was finishing graduate school in preparation to become a therapist and I began recognizing the grief woven into the life stories of the patients at the hospital where I worked and in my private practice.
I have taken many grief trainings over the years from various perspectives and professionals: Grief Recovery Institute where I was a grief trainer for 12 years, American Academy of Bereavement Advanced Facilitator, Medical Family Therapy Certificate program at Rochester School of Medicine, Association of Death Education and Counseling (ADEC), David Kessler’s Online course, Megan Devine’s 6-month Grief Care Professional Certificate Program, and one of my favorites are the courses at Robert Neimeyer’s Portland Institute for Loss and Transition.
I also have the pleasure of being an adjunct professor at The Graduate School of Education and Psychology at Pepperdine University where I teach graduate students about case formulation which provides a structured approach to understanding clients, guiding treatment planning, identifying underlying factors, facilitating collaboration, monitoring progress, and integrating theory and practice. For me, that means including information about loss and grief.
It’s my personal and professional passion to help therapists confidently address the devastating effects of grief so their clients can regain their footing and find hope and joy again. I believe there are countless ways to reach grieving hearts, which is why I continually search for resources that touch someone’s pain and help them feel connected to another’s story.
Whether through metaphors that bring clarity to the complexities of loss, or tools that help grievers navigate the rough terrain of the grief world, my goal is to provide meaningful support and understanding.
