Here's one of my favorite grief books (I have several favorites). Patrick O'Malley PhD has written an honest, vulnerable book about the shortcomings of our own grief education for clinicians and how his own loss changed the way he saw the grief of his clients.

I'm not that crazy about the title because it kind of implies there are right and wrong ways of dealing with grief but his narrative approach calls to my perspective of helping grieving clients to strengthen the emotional and sometimes spiritual connections with loved ones who have died.

Here's a review of the book:

"Sadness, regret, confusion, yearning―all the experiences of grief―are a part of the narrative of love," reflects O’Malley. Here, with uncommon sensitivity and support, he invites us to explore grief not as a process of recovery, but as the ongoing narrative of our relationship with the one we’ve lost―to be fully felt, told, and woven into our lives."
