Grief is Love: Living with Loss by Marisa Renee Lee offers a deeply personal, breathtaking and fresh perspective on grief.

Lee beautifully frames the grieving experience as one that is based in love, connection and relationship. Lee shares the story of her mother's illness, death and her experiences with infertility as a black woman in America. Her personal stories, combined with her knowledge of up to date grief research and literature, work together to destigmatize, de-pathologize and decolonize grief.

Lee highlights the reasons we need to shift away from the five stage model and begin to understand grief as natural, unique and nuanced. Lee says, "grief, like love, is limitless."

If we understand grief to be like love, and to be limitless, it allows us limitless ways to treat, heal from and live with grief. Lee's words empower grievers to feel whatever they are feeling and to honor however they are compelled to heal. As Lee so accurately explains, "healing is not done in stages, but over a lifetime."
